This year, the Virgil Family Scholarship honors the life of Willie Lee Virgil ("Uncle Bill"). Uncle Bill was born in Newton, Mississippi and was the first born child to Willie and Bessie Virgil. His childhood years were spent in Columbia, Mississippi where he graduated from Jefferson High School, now known as Jefferson Middle School.
Uncle Bill spent the majority of his career in the field of radiation safety and won numerous awards for his service. He strongly valued family and loved being around his children and grandchildren. Seeing his legacy truly warmed his heart.
Uncle Bill made a profound impact on the lives of everyone who encountered him, but most certainly with his family. We will forever cherish the love he shared and his legacy. Through this scholarship, we seek to provide students with financial assistance to pursue their career goals.
One recipient will be awarded the Virgil Family Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to go towards college tuition and fees.
